Socks Needed!

Socks make great erasers for the white boards we use to practice letter formation, spelling, and number formation. You can even store your dry erase marker inside.
If you would like to donate clean old socks that are missing their mate to our classroom it would much appreciated! Please only send socks that are large enough for a dry erase marker to fit inside. We would also appreciate a pair or package of new socks. Whatever works for you! Thanks so much!

Punctuation Investigation

Kindergarteners learn so much about writing. They go from scribbles and simple drawings to detailed drawings with words and sentences. Our focus lately has been sentences. Right now we are investigating punctuation in real books to learn how we can use punctuation in our own writing. Here are some of the kids first attempts.

Kid’s Choice Writing

At writing today the children chose their own genres for writing. Some chose to write a true story, others a teaching book. Some chose fairy tales or a simple “I like” book. The only rule was each child’s writing had to include words and pictures.

Birthday Celebrations- Montessori Style

“A trip around the sun, a trip around the sun, it takes a year for the Earth to make a trip around the sun”

We sing the above song for each child to celebrate their day of birth. One student pretends to be the sun and the birthday child hold a model of the earth and travels around the sun while we all sing “A Trip Around the Sun”. The birthday child makes one trip around the sun for each year of their life.

It is a fun way to help the kids conceptualize concepts of time.

It is a nice way for a child to get a little extra love and attention from our class in honor of their birth and life.

Fun from the Recycling Bin

The kids found some fun in the recycling bin. They found some bingo boards from the spring party, grabbed some counters from the math shelf and created their own playtime activity. I was so impressed with the way the kids organized their own game and even took turns being the caller. We have some leaders in our class!
